Bloody Mary

Today I am celebrating a milestone! It's been my first month of a year-long project where I intend to make and post on this blog one new photograph everyday. So cheers to me and cheers to all those who visits my gallery! Be careful drinking though, we don't want this bloody feast to get any bloodier :-)

Absolutely Nothing

Sometimes nothing is all there is. There's no person, there's no talent, there's no hope, there's no future. Nothing is all there is, buried in revolting self pity.

Deciphering Undecipherable

We like to look for hidden meanings, subliminal messages, and subtle hints in everything we can't understand instantly. But what if there is no message? I think more often than not, there's just none at all! Things are like they are for no reason, they just are. And if it's not true, wouldn't it be wonderful if it was?

Happy Meal

I love Saturday night! There's nothing better than sitting at home, in front of TV with some simple food on the plate and a beer in the hand. Oh yes, and a foot on the table. At the moments like this, I appreciate life. It is clearly worth living to have a happy meal on a Saturday night!

Taking a Stab

We live and learn taking a stab. Not as in taking a stab at it, no, more like taking a stab when we are the ones who life is taking a stab at. Some times we take it better than other times, but life doesn't give up trying and we thank God for that. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. It also makes us worn out. But we heal and get ready for another stab thinking that we'll know how to take it next time.

Free of Emotion

For a human being, trying to be free of emotion is absurd. Being objecitve is absurd. Why would one even try being objective, when being subjective is a human's biggest talent? Subjectivity is all we have. Subjectivity is what rules the world. Those who master subjectivity achieve a world more than those who master being objective. I say we should celebrate any emotion, not run away from it!

Friendly Ghost

Some ghost can be actually friendly. I think so. I remember we used to have a ghost at my home in Russia. I never saw him (I think it was him, not her), but I heard him every time i'd go to bed. He lived on top of a very high dresser. And I think they are the ones who make home feel like home, such that when you come home, what seemed to be a big problem, suddenly becomes just a silly incident. Friendly little home ghosts...

New Look

I need a new look. And a haircut. And a new look at things that are around me. The old look is becoming tiring and a burden. New look, like a coat of fresh paint on the walls of a room where the air became stale. Maybe it should be salad green, with clean white accents, you know, easy on the brain.

Moving Forward

Sometimes, it is just the matter of moving forward, without not necessarily moving on. Light up the lanterns and proceed from one to the next and the next after that. It's not important that you can't see what's under those lights, just follow the lights! Most important thing is to finally start moving.

Perfect Shoes

I am not into shoes, but these shoes I noticed. We were at a friend's party and these shoes just caught my attention so I knew I just had to take this photograph. What's with the shoes anyway? I think it's a like a good car, not only a pleasure to drive, but also a statement. My car is my soul say some. How about my shoes is my soul? I think I am onto something here... Good party!

Saturday Bath

When I lived in Russia, I spent every summer with my grandparents in a remote village. We used to have banias - Russian steam rooms on Saturdays. The heating oven there was made of round stones found in the fields and there was no chimney, so the smoke was going out just through the roof. Everything inside that room was of deep black color. And it had this strong smell of smoke, water steam, and dried birch trees.

Blind Date

Many things in life are like a blind date. You don't know who or what and where you will meet. Will it be as good as everybody said it would? Will you fit there like everybody else thinks you would? And you are worried and nervous, but you still go, thinking what have I got to loose? Yet, you are worried because you are affraid of a possible and very likely disappointment. But what if it was the one person or opportunity you've been waiting for your whole life? So you go...

Orange Anatomy 101

My classes at Boston College start on Monday, this coming week. I can't wait until they are over, even before they have begun. Not that they are bad classes, I am just sick of studying. I feel like my brain is already as swallen as this orange and there's no more space for school left in my head.

One day it's given to you, other days it's taken from you. One day it's an happy tune, other days it's a sad tune, and another day, and another day... And one day one might wake up and hear no happy tunes anymore. But the strange thing is - the happy tunes are still playing, one just need to want to hear them.

Spiritual Theme

Spirit is what puts a human being aside from an animal. Spirit and Intellect. But one cannot be governed purely by one's intellect, no matter how much some of us like to make others believe that their intellect is above their spirit, as in above their emotional selves. So let's let more of the spirit into our lives for the World will be a better place then. Yes, I love you too.

Time to Play

Today is a very special day. It is Friday, the 13th, and the Moon is 100% full. This is that special combination that makes all the black devilish forces come out and play their dirty tricks. No wonder i have been feeling upbeat over the last couple of days. It's like during a mid-summer thunderstorm - exciting!

Once in a While

I had a good day today. Right from the very morning it just felt right. Sometimes you get days when everything just feels to work out well. But I wonder what comes first? Does everything work out well because one feels that it will, or is it the other way around?

Apples and Oranges...

...once had an argument, they were trying to decide which was a better fruit. Oranges said: "We have a lot of vitamin C, and pretty skin, while you apples have a core that one can choke on". Apples looked back at oranges and just smiled saying nothing. Because they knew they were all just fruit.

Ways and Means

A long time ago, when I heard about people "searching for their true call", "discovering themselves", "learning about true selves", etc., I didn't get it. What was there to search for or discover? It's You! I know myself, why can't You know Yourself? But now I am thinking, Do I?

From Me to You

We used to be the babies long time ago. It's really hard to believe. And out parents used to be young, like us now. And they thought they'd never get old, like we do now. We took from them what we needed, just like our kids take what they need from us.

Points of View

Some people argue a lot. I think I am one of them. I argue with friends, with my wife, with my colleagues at work, and even with my boss. It doesn’t even depend on what point of view people express – I still feel that I don’t agree. Maybe it’s because everything can be really looked at from two different sides.

Strawberry Field

Strawberries make people happy. Somehow they are associated with the scenes full of light and happiness. Or sex. This might be the same. And they also look like little read hearts. So this is my today's strawberry - it wants to be happy and it is, but it also has many little black scars.

Dark Well

The water in the black river was so dark because it was coming through many layers of dirt from deep underground. People didn't want to drink the black water from the river, so they dug a deep well. But it still filled with black water - the well just wasn't deep enough...

Black Water

When I lived in Russia there was a small river nearby with absolutely black water in it. That river was going into the lake, which was also all black. Even the fish was black in that lake. But once you get some of that water into a bucket and let it stay in the light, it would lighten up, and more so with time...

Deep Down

Sometimes I get a feeling that everything is going on a wrong track, and I am expecting something even worse, maybe a catastrophy even. Yet deep down there's this lightball of disbelief making me hope that it's impossible. No, it can't be happening, just can't...

Left Overs

Left overs is the best thing after the parties. The worst thing is that the party is over and inevitably one has to return back to everyday life. Work, home, week-end, work, home, week-end... but then again, Party!

Left Side of the Brain

They say our left side of the brain is responsible for verbal, logical, and analytical thinking. It is this side that I think I know best in me. My right (the creative) side has mostly stayed in the dark. Not that I haven't been using it, more that I am not quite sure what it is like. I mean is it any good, or is it just like my left side? Hopefully I am finally on the way to finding it out.
